Volunteer FAQs

Who can volunteer as a baker?

We welcome volunteers from the community who share our values of kindness, respect, and reliability.

  • Volunteers must be at least 18 years old
  • Volunteers must show proof of a Food Handler's License
  • We will ask for photos of previous work to ensure a volunteer's ability to provide desserts.

What volunteer roles are available?

  • As of now, volunteer roles include:
    • Baking/Decorating desserts
    • Quick Dessert stops
  • Volunteer opportunities we will add on in the future will include, but not limited to:
    • Event support
    • Administrative or behind-the-scenes support

How much time do I need to commit?

  • There is no long-term commitment required, though we would love your support endlessly.
  • Flexible volunteer opportunities include:
    • One-time support
    • Short-term projects
    • Ongoing roles

How do I sign up as a volunteer?

  • Volunteers can sign up through our online volunteer form linked below. Once submitted, please email photos of previous work to SprinkleSquad@TheSprinkleProjectTX.org. We will follow up as soon as possible. If you do not hear back within one week, please do not hesitate to email.

Do I need to provide my own supplies and ingredients?

  • In most cases, supplies and ingredients are the volunteer's responsibility.
  • We do not expect you to spend countless hours or an extravagant amount of money. Decoration and time is at your discretion, but we do expect the dessert to have a clean finish and attractive design. Examples of designs are above.

Are there food safety guidelines?

  • Yes. Food safety is our top priority.
  • Volunteers involved in food preparation must follow all safety and sanitation guidelines. We require all volunteers to have a Food Handler License for this purpose.

How is delivery or pick up handled?

  • We will work with each baker/family/case worker to determine the best option.

Is a background check required?

  • Some volunteer roles -  especially those involving children or sensitive information - may require a background check. Volunteers will be notified in advance if this applies.

What if I need to cancel?

  • We understand that life happens. If you need to cancel, please notify us as soon as possible so we can plan accordingly and respect the time of other volunteers.

Can I take photos/videos while volunteering?

  • You may take photos of the desserts you create and the process.
  • Photos of the recipients (children and adults) is strictly prohibited. Should a family choose to share photos or videos, they are advised to send directly to us and we will share once given written consent.
  • Ability to take photos and videos at future events will be discussed at that time.

What should I wear when volunteering? (For future events)

  • Volunteers should wear comfortable, clean clothing and closed-toe shoes. Branded apparel may be provided or requested for certain events but is not required unless noted.

Can I volunteer as an in-home baker or do I need to have a bakery?

  • In-home bakers are always welcome! As long as you provide all information requested and follow guidelines, we would be honored to have you as part of our team.

Will my volunteer hours be verified?

  • Yes. We are happy to verify volunteer hours for students, service programs, or employers upon request.

Who do I contact if I have questions or concerns?

  • If you have questions, concerns, or feedback, please reach out using the contact information provided in your volunteer confirmation email. We’re always happy to help.

Why should I volunteer for The Sprinkle Project?

  • Volunteering with The Sprinkle Project means being part of a community that believes joy matters. Every sprinkle, every smile, and every moment of care makes a meaningful difference.

If we did not answer your question here, please email us and we will reply as soon as possible.
